What’s good for the environment can also save you money

Going green can often mean saving money. A few examples from Consumer Reports:

  • Wash your clothes with cold water. They’ll get just as clean, and you’ll save you about $66 a year.
  • Dial back your water heater from 140° F to 120° F and lower your annual energy bill by as much as $400.
  • Switch from single-use coffee pods to a reusable coffee pod filter and pocket another $400.
  • Try to reduce food waste. The average American family throws out a third of the food it buys, throwing away about $1,800 worth food each per year.
