Stan Sayre's Pits on Lake Washington was far from quiet. AS the Unlimited hydroplanes pulled by their big rigs arrived at the pits there was already a crowd there to receive them. The U-48, brought in for display, the U-25 of Dr. Ken Muscatel and Superior Racing and the newly acquired U-21 dubbed the Miss Albert Lee their primary sponsor and primary sponsor of the weekend event at Seafair.
Each boat made several trips for laps out on Lake Washington, shaking out the potential bugs that may be lurking.
U-25 was sporting a modified engine cowling unlike any seen before. The cowling was form fitted to the streamline shape of the boats spine, removing the air scoop that we are all used to seeing.
All in all it was an interesting few hours in Stan Sayre's Pits with some fast laps turned by the boats to the enjoyment of the crowd and both teams went home with data to use in the upcoming season. Check out www.h1unlimited.com for schedule and updates.
