Despite the wild weather the blooms in the fields of the Skagit Valley are pushing skyward this week as the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival gets under way. Fewer acres means less chances to drive past large plantings that were common just a decade ago, however, Roozengaarde and Tulip Town have taken great measures to plant thousands of early, middle and late-blooming varieties at their display gardens. In addition, the Kiwanis Club of Mount Vernon offers a warming salmon barbecue lunch or dinner at the historic Hillcrest Lodge daily through April 25 for those who want to tiptoe through the tulips then enjoy an alder-grilled meal (just $12 for large portion, $10 for a smaller serving).
The skies have been unpredictable but flowers are bloomin' in the Skagit Valley this week!
