Students Promote Peace Through Song

Students at Centennial Elementary in Olympia, Washington are looking forward to author Greg Mortonson's (Three Cups of Tea and Stones into Schools) visit to Olympia on May 13th. They've been working to support Mortenson's work (building schools in Pakistan and Afghanistan) through his "Pennies for Peace" program. The students have collected MANY pennies and will also be participating in a "Climbing for Kids" fundraiser this week by gathering pledges of "a-penny-a-point" for each point they score in a fun and friendly rock climbing competition at school. Their original song, "Stones into Schools", which they hope to be able to perform for Mortenson during his Olympia visit, shares his message of peace through education.
