Growing up in Newfoundland, Canada, backyard skating rinks were not uncommon to my husband, Robert. After spending last Christmas with his family in Newfoundland, our boys learned to skate on their uncle's backyard rink. Rob came home, convinced he could pull off a small rink in our yard, even if it did only last for the few days Western Washington stayed below freezing.
So Monday, Dec. 7th, Robspent about an hour constructing his rink out of old 2x4s and some black tarp we had on hand for a household project. By Wednesday morning the boys donned their skates and tested it out. 3 hours later they came in for their hot chocolate. It was skated on all day and there are big plans for hockey tomorrow. If only the cold would stick around!!
