After purchasing a box of yams from the Issaquah Costco we got home and while putting our groceries away my wife was startled by a large(by our account) Black Widow Spider(seen with the red hourglass shape on it's underside). it was hanging from the top of the box when she opened it up. I remember seeing "Black Widow Found in Grapes" on the news a few months back and thought that this should be also released to the public. I would feel horrible if someone else bought these yams and their young child or dog was bitten by the venomous arachnid. Me and the wife have been getting the heebie-jeebies everytime we think about it. Please show this story to the public!

I was looking at a used car in Mill Creek and found a black widow in the trunk, so yes they are in the area. I wouldn't be surprised if the spider crawled into the box while it was sitting in the car.

Yeah, I'm sure that there is a black widow in every box of yams. Great story. NOT! /borat.

This just in....Black Widow found in sack of potatoes. brb alerting media.

Thanks for the heads up! I am always buying yams at Costco and was never warned about the black widow epidemic. I am going to start shopping at Sam's club for my Yams now. Hopefully they have a better screening process.

I linked this article to a Subaru Impreza car forum. please excuse their ignorance.

What is the best blow off valve for a 2002 WRX? My dad is buying me one for Christmas and I want to have some mods ready to go!

DID YOU KILL THE SPIDER? Thought so! YOU SPIDER MURDERING MONSTER!

Why do you hate spiders so much??

How are your wife's yams? Still succulent?

In other news: last year my coworker was deployed and I took his duties (and paycheck) while he was gone. Now that he's coming back from war, they're demoting me and giving me a paycut and giving him his old job back. Life's unfair QQ

Someone should shut Costco down for this. Before you know it there will be an invasion of black widows, the streets will be over run and the beginning of the zombie invasion shall ensue. All because the media never let us know about Costco Widows!

Y U DO?

so, you & the wife have been getting the heebie-jeebies and you thought giving them to the rest of the area would help? is this like telling everyone about the song you can't get out of your head so it gets in their heads too? nice job.

Dont call me black, racist.

This is a serious problem and obviously Costco is the only store that has any sort of bug in its produce. You as a news organization should be compelled to forward this to the National news. This way everybody in America can decide not to shop ther

Nobody could stop the spiders. Their leaders talked and talked and talked. But nothing could stem the avalanche. Their world crumbled. The cities exploded. A whirlwind of looting, a firestorm of fear. Men began to feed on men.

In other important news, I'm an overreacting moron.

Why would Costco pack the boxes with black widows? It would seem all the death and dismemberment that would result from this would affect their repeat business.

Ne m'appelez pas noir, raciste. Ce fut une mauvaise tan

There are a few black widow spiders in western WA. Be more careful when you go to eastern WA--they seem to like dryer areas. I have found them in many desert areas.

I hear the Black Widow is used in the Yam packing industry to threaten the children from leaving their posts before every last Yam is packed. You have just uncovered a major story! You are a hero!

cool story bro.

I hope your whole family dies.

Interesting story. Contrary to what the "experts" say and what is popular belief, Black Widow spiders do live in Washington State, if only in rare instances. I discovered several while inspecting a house crawl space in Botell. Exterminator confirmed
