The Paramount made a new “green” sign, replacing its old sign. The new sign is an exact visual replica of the former sign. Technically the new sign is more of an aqua or a teal, but not actually green. The “green-ness” of the sign refers to the improvements they’ve made to the sign over the old sign. It is said to be 90% more energy efficient. The lighting uses 0.75 watt LED bulbs and neon. The aluminum in the sign uses 44% recycled materials. The sign also sports and all new electrical system.
A countdown led to the ceremonious lighting of the new sign, signaled by phony switch that was timed perfectly with the real switch behind the scenes. The crowd roared and applauded when the sign lit up. One woman was heard shouting, “Happy New Year,” however most do not recognize October 21st as the traditional new year. One man said it’s the first time he’s seen all the lights on at the same time. Overall, the crowd was happy to be there and the newly lit sign looked great. Now go see a show at the Paramount already.
