There is a surge of city chickens all over our region, and with many of us being new to the world of urban farming, we can't forget to spoil our fine feathered friends during this heat wave.
Some things to help our chickens beat the heat:
cold melons of any type
LOTS of water--fill plastic containers with water, freeze and place ice chunks in watering devices in the coop; change water numerous times per day too!
fans placed on a low setting can't hurt either (only if you plan on being outside at the time of use!)
ice bricks in plastic bags or milk jugs full of frozen water placed around the coop
using a hose attachment with a "fine mist" setting to direct a cooling mist toward your chickens--keeping the ground moist will cool off their feet (only works in a pen or chicken tractor type setting.)
