(North Kitsap County/Jefferson County) Poulsbo Fire Department and Port Ludlow Fire and Rescue met this morning from 10:00am to 1:30pm to practice entering a confined space on the Hood Canal Bridge. This was done in preparation for the May first closure of the bridge. Closure is expected to last six weeks and during that time there will be 300-400 people working on the bridge 24 hours a day.
The drill gave both departments, who will be responding cooperatively to injuries or medical emergencies on the bridge, a chance to familiarize themselves with the structural layout of the bridge. The bridge is made up of a series of pontoon sections, each with a concrete hollow vault-type area beneath the surface. Bridge workers will be cutting and drilling in these and other areas during the renovation process.
