This afternoon, my daughter, Olivia, my grandson, and I heard a sound like someone rumbling around in a metal shed-followed by squeaking sounds. I thought the neighbor was working in his shed. My daughter said that it sounded more like a bird in trouble. Since I have two cats-I immediately called the cat that I knew was outside-fearing she had hurt one. But to our surprise, when we looked over the fence-there were two Bald eagles entangled within a couple of feet of our fence!
I gave Olivia my digital camera and she took a myriad of pictures.
We figured they were stunned, maybe hit each other in flight. We didn't know. So, I checked the internet and it showed that the male and female look the same, only the female is a bit larger in size. So we really didn't know why they were there-mating? fighting? and were they injured?
I called 911 and they connected me to someone who took down the information and told me to stay by the phone in case they needed to contact me later. (No one ever followed up on my report-it's a good thing they weren't injured)
Well, after alot of "squeaking" or chirping sounds and alot of movement, they were finally able to break themselves free--standing up proudly in the striking pose we all so love....
Then off they flew...
This extraordinary thing took place near Silverdale, WA-on Bucklin Hill Road-Just for an hour today. March 26, 2009.
It's something that we will never forget!
