Several crashes led to a nightmare commute north to Bellingham. Everything from a pickup with car trailer attached flipping into a ditch after losing control to an SUV rear-ending a semi to several semis spinning out ultimately closed I-5 in the northbound direction at exit 250. Traffic backed up for miles on the icy stretch of I-5, with an 30-90 minute delay to detour. The main wreck that closed the freeway involved a semi-trailer that lost control on an icy curve and ended up ricocheting off both guardrails before coming to rest blocking the roadway. Just a quarter mile later, another semi slid off the left side of the roadway, bounced off the cable barrier, and came to rest facing traffic on the right shoulder.
