Baby Consecration with Ship's Bell

Saturday, February 7th, 2009.

Genevieve Krizia Carr, Born October 30th, 2008, was consecrated today using the ship's bell as a sacred vessel. This service was performed on the United States Coast Guard Cutter Polar Sea (WAGB-11) home ported in Seattle, WA.

This ceremony is rooted in a British Naval Tradition where children of the ship's crew born in foreign ports or underway were baptized in the ship's bell. After the ceremony the child's name was engraved into the bell.

The service was performed by Reverend Jeffrey Barker, along with Captain Carl J. Uchytil, Commanding Officer of the USCGC Polar Sea, and Commander Bryan Finch, Navy Chaplin.

Genevieve is the daughter of Paul and Krizia Carr. Paul, an Electrician's Mate Second Class, has been stationed on the USCGC Polar Sea since April 2006. Krizia is a third generation circus performer specializing in flying trapeze.

Attached is a video of the ceremony. Pictures are being sent via email to Julie Berg.
