We started the day with plans for my daughter Kiera to make a snow fort and me to make some sculpture or another. So we got to work just after breakfast, and made good progress by lunch. She had the layout for a fort, and I had managed to stack 4 foot diameter snowballs feet in the air(my would be sculptures core).
Then, I was told how cool it would be to make a bear. Obviously, a 9' spire was not a good bear shape, so we began anew, again with 4' dia. snowballs. Hours later, I had a polar bear that I was happy with, and had finished shaping and smoothing it's fur. By now it was almost dark, and my daughter had yet to do the news report we'd told her she could do. So we decided to cover the finished bear in LEDs and then cut on a top coat of snow that I could then reshape. This of course was a bigger chore than expected, as the pack-happy snow had iced up, and would no longer hold. So we all scrambled to scrape the top layers of icey snow off the ground and get to the fresh snow underneath, which still bearly (ha) stuck. So, it ended up looking more rough and ragged than planned, but my daughter and I have a memory we'll cherish forever (and probably frostbite).
