I believe these are man made instances. These photos were taken here in Palm Springs, CA. It was a bit windy on this day but these clouds did not form over any peaks or mountains. If anybody can explain why I'm seeing this type of thing in the desert, I'd love to hear it!

They are actually alien space craft

Hot deserts are prone to cells of rising and sinking air. Perhaps some higher-altitude wind was forced upward over a cell of rising air?
