I thought this would be the appropriate place to inform others of an incident that happened in Ballard last night. (Because ladies room is all about standing up for other women)! So here it goes….
A few girlfriends and I decided to head to the Matador for dinner last night around 7:30 in Ballard. There was quite the wait for a random Tuesday evening, but we decided to stick it out and put our names on the list. As we were waiting, the hostess kept passing us with this long list as others entered the door. After 20 or so minutes, I decided to glance at the list as she was walking by to see how many people were in front of us. As I glanced, I noticed she had also written a description of people next to their name to find them when their name and table was ready. I saw my name and next to it… it said “Tan / Anorexic”. At first I was thinking, there’s no way she would write that and I just thought I was being self conscious. I pulled my friend Lindsey aside and let her know what I saw and she was determined to confront her. So she walked up to the hostess and asked her if she could see the list and she immediately took the note pad and said, “what do you need”? Lindsey then said, I just need to see the list and as she looked over her shoulder, it definitely said “Tan & Anorexic!” She asked to speak to the manager and the girl walked off. She followed her and said, “I need to speak to a manager now!” The manager walked over and asked what the problem was. Lindsey proceeded to say that his employee made a quick and horrible judgment about a customer. While this was going on, the hostess crossed it off the list and was really embarrassed! The manager asked in complete shock, “is there anything we can do?” Lindsey said, “No, we’re leaving and we’re never coming back!” She said, “You don’t even know my friend and she isn’t anorexic, and if she were this would send her into a deep depression and make things much worse for her!”
This has nothing to do with the restaurant itself, but more about educating people about making quick judgments and discriminating against your own gender or the opposite gender for that matter. Anorexia is a very serious illness and although I have never been a victim, I just happen to be skinny…I get accused of it all the time and I have been dealing with this my whole life! I can’t tell you how many instances that I have been so humiliated after hearing someone make a comment about my weight or calling me anorexic ect….
I was mortified and so upset when I left the restaurant last night and will never go back!
Was her plan to say “Tan & Anorexic – party of 3?!!!
Now I have recently found out that not only is the Matador NOT taking this matter seriously, but they are joking about it and calling the girl Anorexic as a joke.
