This is the second time I found a moth this size.They come to the window at night and land on the screen.Im not sure what kind it is but the body is bigger than any insect Ive ever encountered living here in washington for over 30 years.

I have a huge one on my porch in Ellensburg. Never seen one that big, its body is huge! I thought it was a small bird at first!

We had one on our window last night, August 2, 2011 in Sammamish. We thought it was a bat. It was 4" across not fully extended. I'd like to know what they are and if they are an invasive species we need to worry about.

We live in littlerock washington and seen this same exact moth, it was huge! We thought it was a bat! Does anyone know where they came from? Or what they are?

We just had one fly out of the night while camping near Darrington, WA. We thought it was a bat at first. This was on 7/22/11.

I just found this huge moth and my three kids got a big bucket and captured it,they made a hole in the wing and then started screaming because it flew away.

At Boys and Girls club of hollywood I saw a freaking huge moth-like thing. It was almost a foot long and had a wing span of 9.2 inches. My friend took a picture of it. One of the staff mebers did not notice it and stepped on it.

That's not a Cecropia, it's a Polyphemus, one of the largest of the State-side Giant Silk Moths (the Atlas moth = world's largest) . They aren't supposed to be common in western Washington. Are you sure you're not in Des Moines Iowa?? :P

Seen bigger at my school- their big moths that migrate only i forget the name, and their grey. They sit the whole day or mabye a couple they fly away and die. The little kids at my school either freak out or start smashing them.
