This is the second time I found a moth this size. They come to the window at night and land on the screen.Im not sure what kind it is but the body is bigger than any insect Ive ever encountered living here in washington for over 30 years.
This is the biggest moth I ever seen.

We had one on our window last night, August 2, 2011 in Sammamish. We thought it was a bat. It was 4" across not fully extended. I'd like to know what they are and if they are an invasive species we need to worry about.

At Boys and Girls club of hollywood I saw a freaking huge moth-like thing. It was almost a foot long and had a wing span of 9.2 inches. My friend took a picture of it. One of the staff mebers did not notice it and stepped on it.

That's not a Cecropia, it's a Polyphemus, one of the largest of the State-side Giant Silk Moths (the Atlas moth = world's largest) . They aren't supposed to be common in western Washington. Are you sure you're not in Des Moines Iowa?? :P

I've only seen one myself. I believe that is a Cecropia moth and here is a link for more info... http://www.ivyhall.district96.k12.il.us/4TH/KKHP/1insects/cecropia.html
