After a day of near-record temperatures, the wind started to blow, the sky clouded up and the lightning cracked. About two whole hours of heavy lightning strikes and rumbling thunder pounded the cascades in eastern pierce county. Rain shortly followed and darkness contined to light up the sky for hours.
