Howard Chermak of Chermak Construction, Inc will be awarded the 2010 John M. Fluke Sr. Community Service Award. This award is presented annually by, The South Snohomish County Chamber of Commerce.
Since 1970, the chamber has honored an outstanding individual who has made significant contributions to the community. The purpose of the award is to recognize entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to our region. Chermak’s service, to the local community runs long and is rooted deeply in his desire to help others.
After graduating from Western Washington University in 1969 with a degree in Speech Therapy, Howard enlisted in the U. S. Army. He served in Viet Nam as a Specialist, Fifth Class until 1971.
In 1989, Howard’s company became incorporated as Chermak Construction, Inc. He also became a member of The King and Snohomish Counties Master Builder’s Association and the National Association of Homebuilders Remodeler’s Council. That same year Howard became one of the first remodelers in Washington State to acquire a Certified Graduate Remodelor’s Ô Designation. This is a national designation that is awarded to those who have demonstrated professionalism and excellence in the industry, as well as service to their community.
Throughout his business years, Howard’s company has been an award winning company from local, regional and national orgaizations and publications.
Howard has been a consistent contributor to the community with sponsorships and time invested…too many to count. He believes in a collaborative approach to support a win/win philosophy, whether it is within his own company or with an outside organization.
Those who know Howard Chermak are familiar with his sense of humor and optimistic spirit. It is not unusual for him to have people gathered around him in laughter, wherever he is.
As an employer, he has a reputation for being patient and fair. His company has been developed with a family attitude that incorporates both his employees and his customers. He has an open door policy that welcomes diverse viewpoints. Howard is astute in business matters, and is a flexible and creative leader who is willing to try new approaches.
Howard’s organizational skills, his personable attitude, his willingness to share, and his happy approach to life have contributed to all who have known him. The manner in which Howard has lived his life is a demonstration of all of the above!
