These days, it's no longer enough to be a smooth talker -- to truly rock the romance game, especially early on in a relationship, you've got to be a savvy texter, as well. But in a medium where miscommunication is more the standard than the exception, it's easy to go from "sweet nothings" to "nothing can salvage this conversation." So how do you know you're doing it right?
Here are some texting turn-ons to ensure you break the ice the right way:
- Movie quotes (when used appropriately): While you probably want to avoid any real insider lines that could be perceived as a jab, well-know quotations that show you have similar taste in films can be endearing.
- Dates: Not sure what to do next? Make a date! Asking someone out via text is a great way to merge old-school romance with new media.
But of course, it's not all jokes and quotes. Here are some texting turn-offs to avoid at all costs:
- Spelling errors: When in doubt, default to your auto-correct. A text riddled with "e"s before "i"s doesn't send a great message, so make sure you're double-checking those words you're not sure about.
- Dumb textspeak: LULZ ur abbreives are totes not hot. Sure, you make think your date is amaze, but come on, just spell it out, young YOLOer. Real language is sexy!
