The makers of one of the most polarizing varieties of candy -- the Buttered Popcorn-flavored jelly bean -- are at it again, adding another unusual new flavor to the ranks. Coming soon to a candy store near you: the Draft Beer jelly bean, from Jelly Belly.
According to a press release from the company, the flavor has beer has been "a highly-requested flavor by consumers for decades," but that "the research and development team wanted to get it just right before announcing the new flavor to the world."
What does it taste like?
"Just as you'd imagine," says vice president of marketing Rob Swaigen.
The company describes the bean, which is gold in color and has a "iridescent finish" as "effervescent and crisp...with notes of wheat and a touch of sweetness. The aroma is mildly bready."
And don't worry about kids getting their hands on it -- Ambrose Lee, research and development manager for Jelly Belly, guarantees that "it contains no alcohol."
This is the world's first beer-flavored jelly bean, according to the Jelly Belly Company, who, true to their tradition, have already come up with some "recipes" for the bean, including Beer Sangria and Michelada.
The new flavor will debut at Winter Fancy Food Show in San Francisco and ISM in Cologne, Germany, and will eventually be widely circulated.
