Need a free fix? How to celebrate National Coffee Day on Sunday

Known to be the most caffeinated city in the U.S., there's really no better place to celebrate National Coffee Day on Sunday than Seattle -- and what better way to celebrate than by fueling up for free (or at least at a very deep discount)?

Because National Coffee Day traditionally falls on September 29, regardless of the day of the week, this year's Sunday isn't exactly ideal for retailers, who rely on 9-to-5ers to keep their stores and social media pages busy during the work day. Still, plenty of companies are participating, beginning today and running through the weekend.

Here's a list of a few participating companies:

  • If you brew at home, International Delight is hosting a Twitter chat and a giveaway on Friday, so you could jump the gun and win some free creamer. And, as a bonus, you get a coupon for a free bottle just for entering. 
  • Peet's is leaping into fall with a weekly promotion, so it's not strictly National Coffee Day-related. Still, this coupon gets you a free small maple latte with the purchase of a pastry or other snack. 
  • After taking several years off from celebrating, Seattle's own Starbucks is back in the National Coffee Day game with a celebration of coffee's birthplace, Ethiopia. Stop in to your area Starbucks on Sunday to sample their new Ethiopian blend -- and if you buy a bag, you'll even get a complimentary commemorative cup, while supplies last. 
  • Dunkin' Donuts is giving away free coffees, too, on Sunday, but that does Western Washington exactly no good, considering there is no Dunks in the Evergreen State.
  • In the market for something sweet? Krispy Kreme is giving away free 12-ounce coffees, as well as $1 specialty drinks, also on Sunday. 

Do you know of any local roasters who are participating? Neither Caffe Vita nor Stumptown appear to be, but that doesn't mean they aren't doing a stealth promotion. 

Additionally, some companies that have traditionally particpated don't seem to be (or at least, haven't announced that they are) this year, including McDonald's7-Eleven, and Dutch Bros
