Bummer: Bill Nye did not exactly blind the 'DWTS' judges with science

Former Seattle resident and "Almost Live" cast-member Bill Nye understands that inertia is a property of matter -- but the Science Guy couldn't quite convert that information into a solid dance performance on last night's debut of "Dancing With the Stars."

Despite being an early favorite -- both because of his beloved PBS show and the information that Nye actually is an avid swing dancer -- Nye and his partner, Tyne Stecklein, couldn't quite seem to get themselves into a rhythm during the science-themed number. The performance netted just 14 of 30 possible points.

His low numbers don't seem to have put a damper on the intrigue surrouding Nye, however; the video clip of Nye and Stecklein dancing together seems to be one of the most popular from the night. One YouTube clip has been viewed hundreds of thousands of times.

The number features such endearing details as a lab coat with Nye's name on the back and dark-rimmed glasses, which Nye dramatically removed. And, of course, Nye wore a bow-tie.

"Glee" star Amber Riley placed the highest with an impressive 27 points.

The first pair will be eliminated from the show next Monday, September 23.
