Starring: Jason Bateman, Jason Sudeikis, Charlie Day, Kevin Spacey, Colin Farrell, Jennifer Aniston and Jamie Foxx Directed by: Seth Gordon (KING OF KONG and FOUR CHRISTMASES) Rated: R Story: For Nick, Kurt and Dale, the only thing that would make the daily grind more tolerable would be to grind their intolerable bosses into dust. Quitting is not an option, so, with the benefit of a few-too-many drinks and some dubious advice from a hustling ex-con, the three friends devise a convoluted and seemingly foolproof plan to rid themselves of their respective employers...permanently. There's only one problem: even the best laid plans are only as foolproof as the brains behind them. (Warner Bros) Bottom Line: Don’t let other critics paragraph you to death with details - Hollywood kept it simple this time and in doing so brings us a hilariously ridiculous, rude and raunchy movie with a stellar, comedic cast and a breezy, whip-smart script that clocks in at 97 minutes and, therefore, never overstays its welcome (like the two-hour BRIDESMAIDS – although I still loved that movie). HORRIBLE BOSSES is crude, crass and goofily sophomoric but it keeps you engaged and repeatedly delivers the comedic goods. I enjoyed it, it was fun, now all I want to do is move on and not see a tired, retread, cash-grab sequel (HB2: HORRIBLER BOSSES?) in a couple of years – yes, I’m disapprovingly lookin’ at you HANGOVER 2.
ZOOKEEPER did not see Starring: Kevin James and Rosario Dawson Directed by: Frank Coraci (THE WEDDING SINGER, CLICK and THE WATERBOY) Rated: PG Story: In Zookeeper, the animals at the Franklin Park Zoo love their kindhearted caretaker, Griffin Keyes. Finding himself more comfortable with a lion than a lady, Griffin decides the only way to get a girl in his life is to leave the zoo and find a more glamorous job. The animals, in a panic, decide to break their time-honored code of silence and reveal their biggest secret: they can talk! To keep Griffin from leaving, they decide to teach him the rules of courtship - animal style. (Sony Pictures) Bottom Line: This screened the same evening as HORRIBLE BOSSES so I had to make a choice. From what I’ve heard it’s not that funny and it’s not at all for kids. Looks like I chose wisely!
