Seattle International Film Festival (SIFF) kicks off tonight, bringing three weeks of screenings to theaters across the city. But of the almost 450 films, some are more locally-oriented than others. Like Daniel Torok's powerful documentary, "The Otherside," which explores Seattle's burgeoning hip-hop scene.

Angelina Jolie's mother had breast cancer and died of ovarian cancer, and her maternal grandmother also had ovarian cancer - strong evidence of an inherited, genetic risk that led the actress to have both of her healthy breasts removed to try to avoid the same fate, her doctor said Wednesday.

Brad Pitt says it was important for his partner, Angelina Jolie, to share her story about having her breasts removed to avoid cancer "and that others would understand it doesn't have to be a scary thing."
The word "hipster" is certainly not new (see Allen Ginsberg's "Howl" for an example of its use in 1955), but in the last five years or so, it's been used to describe an all-new group of individuals who, apparently, no one likes. Or at least, they don't really care about.
